Filthy Review - 'The Wrong House'

The Wrong House (2013)

Review by Jude Felton

The Wrong House, which was directed by Eric Hurt, is also known as House Hunting, and whilst I prefer the new title, it should not be confused with Shawn French’s Wrong House from a couple of years back. As it happens though, both are good films and couldn’t really be any further apart in terms of content.

Filthy Review- 'Texas Chainsaw'

Texas Chainsaw (2013)

Review by Jude Felton

Tobe Hooper’s The Texas Chain Saw Massacre had sequels, in fact it had quite a few, and of varying quality it must be said. Then there was the remake, which itself spawned a prequel, a few years back. Now we have a new film, Texas Chainsaw, which is a direct sequel to the Hooper’s 1974 film. Confused? Don’t be, as this film does what the Halloween franchise did, and ignored the original sequels when it hit Halloween H20.

Filthy Music Review - 'Stygian Ascent: Memories'

Stygian Ascent – Memories (2013)

Review by Jude Felton

There’s definitely something in the water over in Sweden, when it comes to the music that comes out of this Scandinavian country. It seems that they just can’t help themselves. Enter Stygian Ascent, a band that up until a few days ago I had no idea existed. Mind you, there’s a good reason for that, with the fact that they have only been around for a couple of years, and this is their debut release.

We do like ourselves a good, tasty giveaway here at the Lair, and this one in particular is a cracker! Filthy Music Review - 'Darkall Slaves: Abysses of Seclusion'

Darkall Slaves – Abysses of Seclusion (2013)

Kaotoxin Records

Review by Jude Felton

Some bands are happy to churn out an album, EP or single every year, and if you’re a fan that can be great, if the quality is up to par. Darkall Slaves are not quite so prolific, with only a self-released EP, back in 2008, seeing the light of day prior to this single release. Fans of crushing death metal should rejoice though, as this is 10 minutes of utter savagery.

Filthy Music Review - 'Duncan Evans: Bird of Prey'

Duncan Evans - Bird of Prey (2013)

Prophecy Records

Review by Wayne Simmons

When Duncan Evans, aka Henry Hyde Bronsdon from the Gentlemen's Club of A Forest Of Stars, signed a 5 album solo deal, the end product must have surprised fans.

Filthy Music Review - 'Lychgate: Lychgate'

Lychgate – Lychgate (2013)

Mordgrimm

Review by Jude Felton

It’s all too easy to focus on facts that aren’t directly in correlation to the music, when approaching some albums. Lychgate, for example, comprise of members of Omega Centuari, Lunar Aurora and Esoteric, which can be helpful, in as much as you might get a general idea of what to maybe expect from the music. However, Lychgate is very much its own entity, and that entity is massive and crushing, unleashing an album that most certainly delivers.
