Filthy Music Review - 'Massacre: Back from Beyond'

Massacre - Back from Beyond (2014)

Century Media Records

Review by Trevor Proctor

Massacre’s signing to Century Media and subsequent news of a new album created a massive buzz within the metal community; once pioneers of the Floridian death metal scene Massacre return in March 2014 with their first (highly anticipated) full length album in almost 18 years.

Filthy Music Review - 'Black Tar Prophet: Deafen'

Black Tar Prophet – Deafen (2014)

Domestic Genocide Records

Review by Jude Felton

A couple of months ago I was introduced to the thoroughly filthy world of Black Tar Prophet, through their split CD with Crawl. It contained two tunes, Judgement Whore and Hypomania, which clocked in at just less than 16 minutes. Both were more than enough to whet the appetite for more, from the Nashville duo of Greg Swinehart and Erik Dever; an appetite that has been satiated by the sludgy and grime-ridden Deafen.

Dead Nude Girls (2014)

Review by Jude Felton

Having followed the directorial career of Canadian enfant terrible, Ryan Nicholson, since his debut short film, Torched, it’s always with a high level of anticipation that I approach each new movie. With 2006’s Live Feed he probably went as close to mainstream accessibility as I imagine he ever will, and that was probably due in part to the incredible success of Eli Roth’s Hostel, even though the two films are very different.

Filthy Music Review - 'Cemetery Fog: Shadows from the Cemetery'

Cemetery Fog - Shadows from the Cemetery (Tape) (2014)

Iron Bonehead Productions

Review by Trevor Proctor

Finland’s Cemetery Fog is a three piece that plays a twisted blend of blackened death and doom. After forming in 2012 Shadows from the Cemetery was originally self-released as one of three demo tapes by the band the following year, at this time exposure for the band would have been quite limited and localised. However Iron Bonehead Productions, whose knack for spotting talent is as exemplary as their release roster, snapped up this demo for a much deserved, higher profile release due in March 2014.
