Bloody Filthy Review - Mutant Girls Squad

Mutant Girls Squad (2010)

Review by Jude Felton

Mutant Girls Squad is the third Sushi Typhoon release to hit the streets courtesy of Well Go USA, with the previous two being Helldriver and Yakuza Weapon. That alone should give you a rough idea of what to expect from this movie, as if the title alone doesn’t. Out of the previous releases I personally enjoyed both, although I had far more fun with Yakuza Weapon; Helldriver at times, ok most of the time, was just a continual assault on the viewer. I had high hopes for Mutant Girls Squad and fortunately it did not let me down.

Carrion Screaming! 'Borley Rectory' and 'Spring Heel Jack' are on their way

A couple of years ago I reviewed the short film, from director Ashley Thorpe, The Hairy Hands and you can read that review here. It's a retelling of the Hairy Hands of Dartmoor tale and completes the Penny Dreadful trilogy. The short features a terrific blend of live action and animation, and features narration from a certain Doug Bradley. Following on from that I recently had the chance to visit Thorpe's earlier shorts, The Screaming Skull and Scayrecrow, and found them both to be absolutely wonderful. Now there is news on not one but two new films from Carrion Films.

'Attenberg' DVD release details

Hailing from Greece, Attenberg is the latest film release announced from Strand Releasing. This coming-of-age tale will hit the stores on DVD on June 19th. I have been wholly impressed with their releases so far, offering up as they have, a fine selection of world cinema. Am hopeful that it will continue with Attenberg, which was incidentally Greece's official entry for the Academy Awards.

Filthy Review - Entrance

Entrance (2012)

Review by Jude Felton

Generally speaking you know that you are getting a horror flick from either the name of the movie, or maybe even the accompanying artwork. You know this and your mind is ready for whatever horrors may be coming your way. In that respect horror can be very predictable; the film might be amazing, but you still go into it knowing the genre into which it falls. Why do I mention this? Glad you asked to tell the truth. Allow me to elaborate.

'Margaret' Blu-ray release details

On July 10th 20th Century Fox will be releasing, to Blu-ray combo pack, the coming-of-age tale, Margaret. Initially the release will be available exclusively on Amazon, and included will be the theatrical version as well as an extended cut, which will, believe it or not, run to just over 3 hours (the theatrical version is 2 1/2 hours).  Margaret, from director Kenneth Lonergan, stars Anna Paquin, Jean Reno, Mathew Broderick and Mark Ruffalo.

Woody Allen's 'To Rome with Love' - Trailer, Stills and more

I definitely have my old man to thank for the fact that I am a fan of Woody Allen's flicks. My introduction was the double-header of Annie Hall and Manhattan, which is not a bad place to start. Now I have news on the director's latest film, To Rome with Love, which opens at select theaters on June 22nd from Sony Classics. In a perfect world Allen's flicks would open in every theater! Read on for some stills, the full synopsis and the trailer.

Filthy Giveaway- 'Michael' DVD - Closed

If you haven't read my review of director Markus Schleinzer's Michael (you can read it here) you will know that I was very impressed with it. The story follows the title character, Michael, who lives for all intents and purposes a very mundane life. This is true, aside from one detail; he has a 10-year-old boy locked in his basement. Now, thanks to the wonderful folk at Strand Releasing, I have 5 copies of the Michael DVD to giveaway to some lucky readers!

'Thin Ice' Blu-ray and DVD details

Coming to Blu-ray and DVD on June 12th is the comedy thriller Thin Ice, which stars Greg Kinnear, Alan Arkin and Billy Crudup.  20th Century Fox are releasing the movie which has been described as "a crime twist worthy of Hitchcock and dialogue worthy of the Coen Brothers". If it can live up to that desription I will be a happy bunny for sure!

Thai Horror 'The House' set to haunt the UK

Originally released in 2007, director Monthon (The Victim) Arayangkoon's The House is finally set for a UK DVD release. It will drop on June 4th from MVM and I plan on watching it, as I am a bit partial to some Thai horror.

Civil War zombie Flick Exit Humanity - Release details and trailer

On June 19th Exit Humanity will be released on DVD, VOD and Digital Download. It is the latest release in the Bloody Disgusting Selects series of films, and to say that I have been eagerly awaiting it would be a mild understatement. Expect a review here at the Lair soon.

New Clip from Strand Releasing's Michael

The rather disturbing film, Michael, will be hitting the streets on May 15th from Strand Releasing. To coincide with that I have a new clip to share with you, that pretty much sets the scene for the uncomfortable nature of the film. You can also check out my review here.

Filthy Review - Hell on Wheels: Season 1

Hell on Wheels: Season 1 (2011)

Review by Jude Felton

When it comes to the best in television shows I firmly believe that the majestic Game of Thrones rules the roost. However, that show is on HBO which is a premium channel that requires a subscription in order to watch it, and that price is well worth it in my humble opinion. However, if paying a subscription isn’t your thing you could do a lot worse than to check out some of the shows on AMC.
