Filthy Music Review - 'Year of the Goat: Angels' Necropolis'

Year of the Goat - Angels' Necropolis (2012)

Van Records

Review by Wayne Simmons

Occult rock’s pretty big right now. For the uninitiated, we’re talking melodic rock harking back to the good ol’ days of Coven and Blue Oyster Cult and Rocky Erikson. Think bands like Ghost B.C., Blood Ceremony, The Devil’s Blood; mixing upbeat melodies with occult-themed lyrics and imagery.

Filthy Music Review - 'Voyag3r: Victory in the Battle Chamber'

Voyag3r – Victory in the Battle Chamber (2013)

Bellyache Records

Review by Jude Felton

When it comes to movies I’d, by far, much rather have a score as the soundtrack, as opposed to individual bands. As much as I like death metal et al, I don’t really want to hear it blaring away while I’m viewing a film. That’s partly why I enjoy a lot of movies from the 70s and 80s; some of the most memorable scores come from those decades. The movies of John Carpenter, most of the stuff coming out of Italy and even Vince DiCola’s work on Rocky 4, among many others, all stick in the mind to this very day.

Filthy Music Review - 'The Deathisodes: In the Universe of Horror'

The Deathisodes – Inside the Universe of Horror (2013)

UKEM Records

Review by Jude Felton

Expectations can be a dangerous thing. With music you’ll quite often listen to a new album, and have some sort of expectation level as what to expect; certainly in terms of musical style. With The Deathisodes you should cast aside any preconceived notions of what the music will be like, and instead go in with an open mind, as Inside the Universe of Horror will probably upset some, while others will embrace its diversity.
