Filthy Review - Return of the Living Dead: 2 Disc Special Edition

The Return of the Living Dead (1985) 2 Disc Special Edition

Review by Jude Felton

The first time I saw Return of the Living Dead was over 20 years ago on VHS. Since then I have watched the movie numerous times and still own the bare-bones DVD from 2002. This 2 Disc release, which is also available on limited edition Steel book Blu-ray, is the release that his movie truly deserves though. The Return of the Living Dead is a bonafide classic horror film, in a time when the word ‘classic’ is thrown at just about any movie that is above average. This, my friends, is the real deal.

Filthy Review - The Collapsed

The Collapsed (2011)

Review by Jude Felton

About a year ago I watched and reviewed a screener copy of The Collapsed, which you can read elsewhere on the site, and I was thoroughly impressed. The story concerns a family on the run to the country to look for their other son after the apparent end of the world. Along the way they have to avoid gunmen, other survivors and an unseen force that seems to be following them.

Filthy Giveaway - Sector 7 Blu-ray - Closed

On June 26th the Korean flick Sector 7 will be surfacing on 3D Blu-ray, Blu-ray and DVD. Now, thanks to the good folk at Shout! Factory I have two copies of the Blu-ray (which includes both 3D and 2D versions of the film) to give away.

'The Bunny Game' - Blu-ray/DVD artwork and disc details

Over the past few weeks I have previewed two of the teaser posters for the upcoming release of Adam Rehmeier's The Bunny Game (which I have added again below), now I have the Blu-ray/DVD artwork and disc details for you. Autonomy Pictures release this controversial movie, which was banned in the UK, on July 17th on Blu-ray and DVD, and the pre-order links are attached, so that you can get your grubby mitts on this movie.

'A Day of Violence' invades the US

News on a release that I have been waiting for since I reviewed the film back in 2010, and that is the US release of A Day of Violence. Director Darren Ward let me know that it will be released by MVD Entertainment on August 21st, fully uncut I might add. This brutal gangster flick also stars that legend of Italian cinema Giovanni Lombardo Radice, alongside Nick Rendell. Specifics on the supplemental material have not been confirmed as yet, but Ward informed me that he did supply over 2 hours of previously unseen goodies. When I know, you will know! The film is bloody mental and I can't wait to get my hands on a copy.

Shout! Factory unveils Scream Factory

This is the kind of news that is all too rare, but when it does comes along it puts a huge smile of my face. Shout! Factory have announced their Scream Factory line, which will see Blu-ray Collector's Editions of Halloween 2 and 3, Terror Train and most importantly for me Phantasm 2. This line isn't just limited to these titles though, so I have posted the full details below. Scream Factory will unleash Halloween 2 and 3 on September 18th, with the other titles to follow. Just tell me these don't look sweet!

Filthy Review - 'The Turnpike Killer'

The Turnpike Killer (2012)

Review Jude Felton

In my review of 2010s’ The Super, which was directed by Evan Makrogiannis and Brian Weaver, I made mention of the fact that it brought the grime back to New York City. It took us back to that time in the 70s’ and 80s’ where it was a violent and scary place, or at least that is how the city was portrayed. Now the directing duo have unleashed their latest flick, The Turnpike Killer, and amped that violence and grime up a notch or two.

Filthy Review - The Collective Vol 3: 10 Minutes to Live

The Collective Vol. 3: 10 Minutes to Live (2012)

Review by Jude Felton

Jason Hoover and JABB Pictures are well aware that there are an abundance of fresh and original ideas out there, just waiting to be filmed. This was quite evident with the releases of The Collective Volumes 1 and 2, entitled The Meat Eater and The Box respectively, two collections of short films that both took one synopsis, which was the title, then let filmmakers run with an idea, just as long as the film was around 10 minutes long. Quite often short films get lost in the ether, only ever turning up online and rarely seeing a release to disc. More is the shame to that, as quite often these short films are quite terrific.

Filthy Review - Love Never Dies

Love Never Dies (2012)

Review by Jude Felton

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera is a musical that has run and run, and is without doubt an absolutely terrific slice of entertainment. The Blu-ray release of the 25th anniversary show at London’s Royal Albert Hall, which I also reviewed, is visually and musically stunning, and really is worth checking out whether you are already a fan, or are just curious as to what all the fuss is about. Not wanting to rest on his laurels (does he ever?), Webber decided to create a sequel to Phantom, entitled Love Never Dies, and recorded this performance in Melbourne, Australia.

Filthy Review - Abraham Lincoln vs Zombies

Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies (2012)

Review by Chris MacGibbon

A few things come to mind when you think of the name Abraham Lincoln, for some he's the president who guided our country through the Civil War and freed the slaves, to others - he's that guy on the five dollar bill. The one thing folks don't usually bring to mind when they hear name, Abraham Lincoln, is zombies - to get even more specific, said man fighting said zombies. Of course, that is until now.

Step in The Asylum.

Filthy Review - Coriolanus

Coriolanus (2011)

Review by Jude Felton

When I was a wee youngster I, along with countless others, studied to some degree the works of Shakespeare. With me it was, shall we say, the usual suspects of Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet and Julius Caesar. All of which I enjoy, although it was not until later in life that I really appreciated them. One play I did not study, and still have not read, is Coriolanus, on which this film is based. After watching this though I probably will at some point, as this is one hell of a movie.
