I was going to hold on to this news and post it tomorrow, as it has been a long day, but I couldn't wait for a couple of reasons. First reason is that The Prospector's Curse is a short film that has just wrapped filming in Ponty Pool, Ontario, Canada, and as you probably know I am really impressed with the amount of quality genre cinema filtering down from the Great White North. The second reason being is that one of the stars is Robert Nolan. Yes, the very same Robert Nolan who stars in Fatal Picture's short movies Worm and Familiar. These are two of the best short films I have seen and Nolan was superb in both, playing the brothers Dodd.
The Prospector's Curse appears to be a slightly different kettle of fish in that it is a Western themed horror flick, set during the Klondike Gold Rush, that has a darkly comedic edge to it. It was written and directed by Josh Heisie and was produced by Bruno Marino. Starring alongside the aforementioned Nolan are David Roberts, Johnny Quinn and Amanda Ives. The Director of Photography is Michael Jari Davidson, who also worked on Familiar as well as the upcoming SICK, and the Special Effects Makeup Artist is Carlos Henriques (Red: Werewolf Hunter and Familiar) of The Butcher Shop.
Synopsis
Theodore “Tubby” Ellsworth and Jack smith are two criminals on the run, lost in the
untamed wilderness. When they stumble across a mutilated Prospector, dying on Indian
ground, they promise to give him a Christian burial. The fugitives break their oath and
steal the old man’s gold…but that night, the Prospector’s corpse returns to make them
pay!
The Prospector's Curse is currently in post-production in Toronto, but you can rest assured that I will have a review of it just as soon as is humanly possible.
